1.  What services does NEK Environmental Services offer?
  • NEKES offers water quality services including single family and small commercial wastewater inspections, private water well screenings, education, loan inspections, nuisance and other reported environmental/public health concerns.
2.  How do I get my private well water tested?
  • Call or email the NEKES office to request private water well permits, well structure assessment, and water screening services. Basic well water screenings are nitrates, coliform bacteria, and E. coli with other screenings as requested or applicable. NEKES office: 785-985-2778 or nekes@carsoncomm.com.   • Public water supplies are screened through the laboratory at the Kansas Department of Health Environment (KDHE) at least monthly. Please click here to contact KDHE with questions on public water supply screening results, or contact your rural water district/municipal water supply source.

3.  How do I get a wastewater system installed?

  • Large commercial or multiple unit dwelling wastewater systems are regulated by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. click here to link to the KDHE web site for further information.

4.  What are the costs for NEKES services?
  • To view the fee schedule and procedures on payment for Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Jackson, and Nemaha Counties, Please click here.
5.  How do I file an environmental concern or problem?
  • Failing single family wastewater/small commercial systems are reported to the NEKES office during normal business hours if the failed system is located in Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Jackson, and Nemaha Counties at 785-985-2778 or nekes@carsoncomm.com.
  • All private well water questions are to be communicated with the NEKES office in Troy.
